A “mental” Spring
Spring for me this year should have been quite the joyous season. A massive change in my work/life balance, the beginnings of my new career as a photographer, my debts cleared and no money worries for the forseeable future and far more time to venture out with the cameras and enjoy my passion. But as per usual in my life things havn’t quite panned out as expected.
First of all the wonderful tax man decided to take a massive chunk of my pension pot which I am now in the process of trying to claim back. Anyone who has been in the same predicament will know just how uncommunicative and awkward they can be when its not you owing them money!
Secondly, I suffered a nasty back injury, tearing one of the worst muscles you can tear on the left side which rendered me pretty much useless for several weeks and when I could start to do things it would take a day to recover from the exertions at least. Its much better now and nearly back to normal.
My camper van? Not even slept a night in it yet!
So that all sounds really terrible and depressing and yes it has felt like the world is against me on occasion the last cou0ple of months. But, once again photography comes to the rescue!
A glorious morning spent with a client in this bluebell woodland
In spite of everything I did manage to get out on a few occasions to heal the mental woes once again in the company of the trees. Nothing beats a wander among the ancient woodlands and forests, soaking in the aromas of the bluebells and wild garlic, the sounds of the birds busy preparing for new life among the branches above, the bark of a deer, startled by my heavy footsteps, the embaressed harrumphs of a startled dogger…..wait what?
Even on the wane, the garlic still adds an air of magic to a scene
Did I manage to get out as often as I could have? Nope. Would I have preferred to not have to rest up for a day after to stop my back screaming at me? Yes. Did it stop me anyways? Hell no! I had to adapt a bit to achieve things butI actually managed a few good sessions including a surprise clear night where I could get my first Lonely Joe under the Milky Way shot of the year!
My first go at using a star tracker paid off handsomely!
Spring for me has been a challenge this year, but my comfort blanket that is photography has got me through it and out the other side. Next month I have a gallery of sorts opening in a local florist who has agreed to display and sell my prints. I am heading to France with the good lady to visit family and chill out for a week or so. I have a trip to Wales I am starting to plan out that will include some stunning drone locations and maybe even a waterfall or two. And the workshops are still coming in slowly but surely. Now all I need is the rest of my money back from HMRC and we are golden!
