Exciting times ahead

The next month or two are going to be an exciting time for me. I have had some fantastic news this past week that I am unable to share for now but keep your eyes peeled on my social media during September is all I can say! Also I will find out how well I have done in the Natural Landscape Photography awards next month and I have submitted my images for this years British Photography Awards, which I have made the finals for the past two years and I am aiming to do so again this year. My daughter Cara has also submitted her first images into the BPA this year with her music photography and I would be over the moon and incredibly proud to see her do well too! She really has come on in leaps and bounds this past year and has recently upgraded her camera to a Nikon Zf, the same camera I use. The step up in autofocus capabilities have already got her in love with it lol.

Autumn is coming and with the hot dry summer we are currently in, there are already signs of colour in the woodlands as trees get stressed and react by shedding leaves and branches early. Hopefully we get some consistant rains soon as I feel if we dont my two week break at the end of October might be too late!

This weekend I aim to head into the heather that has come into bloom the last week or so and should be peaking over the coming 7-10 days. I have two areas within an hhours drive of me that can both produce stunning scenes but I think I will head to the south Dorset coast as I know this area better than the New Forest.

MY only useable image from last year of the heather.

There also looks like a good oppurtunity to capture the milky way core this weekend for probably the final time this year. I have had quite a successful year in regards to the milky way with the most trips out to photograph it and I am still learning ways to improve the final edit.

My intention this autumn is to focus more on the New Forest area rather than Dartmoor. I have spent the past three years up on t’moors and I feel its time to explore a new area. Seeing some stunning images from the likes of Matt Dixon, Lee Cooper and Ryan Seymour among others of the autumn colours of the New Forest and its characterful oaks makes me want to head over that way this year.

Autumn colours (at least in the bracken!)

I am also going to be learning some new skills over the next few months. As you know I am going full time as a photographer next year and need to add new skills to my arsenal to maximise my ability to earn money. So I am going to be refreshing my videography, learning to use new equipment, watching filming tip videos, and finally figuring out Black Magic’s Davinci Resolve video editing software over the winter. That should keep me busy!

I will be running workshops throughout the autumn too so if you would like to attend one of these then please feel free to contact me to arrange a booking.

Thats it for this week.

Toodles!
